Cycle Change Convoy

The Cycle Change Convoy 2008-2009

From August 2008 until December 2009 the Cycle Change Convoy worked its way from Australia to Denmark, cycling through Asia and Europe, to arrive in Copenhagen at the start of the UN Climate Change Conference, the COP15.

From Bucharest, Romania to Budapest, Hungary

This journey was started by the founder of Ride Planet Earth, Kim Nguyen. Kim was joined by others along the way, eventually reaching Copenhagen with around 60 other bicycle activists. People had cycled from around Europe to join together before entering Copenhagen, with the message “Start Cycle Change and Stop Climate Change”.

During the journey the Convoy visited vulnerable communities to find out how climate change was effecting them. Video messages were collected from local people of remote Australia, Asia and Eastern Europe describing the hardships they experienced due to the changing climate. This evidence was used in Copenhagen to help urge the governments meeting there to take action. The Convoy met with Kevin Rudd, then Australian Prime Minister, to pass on the messages collected.

Richard Kimberley, one of the founding members of the Cycle Change Convoy, recorded some of his personal thoughts and photos here.

Supporting Ride Planet Earth:

Imagine giving up your job, consolidating all your life savings and hitting the road for one-and-a-half years. That is what Kim is doing. But we have decided that a little bit of help from generous groups might just help the effort.

So far the following groups are supporting Ride Planet Earth with in-kind support. We thank:
