Cycling rally to raise awareness of organized cycling

City Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar on Sunday announced a bicycle rally organized by Land Trades Builders and Developers to raise awareness of the benefits of cycling and to mark World Health Day.

Titled PRORide Cyclothon (Edition 1), the rally was organized in association with two cycling clubs in the city – Mangalore Cycling Club (MACC) and We Are Cycling (WERC) – to encourage people to cycle not just for fitness physical, but also for daily travel.

Mr Kumar said: “Nowadays people are health conscious. Cycling is great exercise, the best way to stay healthy and fit and it’s good for the environment. I am also a cycling enthusiast. Everyone should take up cycling and ride at least 10-15 km every day. People should cycle to college, school or office and become ambassadors of the green revolution.

Before marking the start of the rally at Milestone 25 at Land Trades, Balmatta, Mr Kumar congratulated veteran driver Joseph Periera, who recently qualified for the Race Across America event. The commissioner said that cycling activity is an activity that can keep the body as well as the mind in shape. Land Trades President Shrinath Hebbar was present.

About fifty runners covered the main axes of the city via Hampanakatte, Mangaladevi, Jeppu and Kankanady, before completing the cyclothon at the starting point.
