The Bank for All, and one of the pioneers in the banking industry to embrace cycling, DFCC Bank recently celebrated World Bike Day. World Bicycle Day falls on June 3 each year and draws attention to the various health and environmental benefits of cycling; a simple, affordable, clean and environmentally friendly means of transport. To commemorate this day, the Bank took the opportunity to declare a “Bike to Work” day for its employees, and organized a fun 15 km ride in which more than 30 cyclists took part.
In addition, DFCC Bank also hosted a special knowledge sharing session focusing on topics related to bicycle etiquette, safety measures, benefits of cycling to work, selecting the ideal bicycle, etc. ., which saw the enthusiastic participation of the staff.
“EXERCISE” is one of the main pillars of the Bank’s Sustainable Development Strategy, and one of the Bank’s flagship initiatives under this pillar is to promote cycling as a way of life among staff, customers and other stakeholders.
Additionally, DFCC was one of the pioneers to launch the Monthly Cycling Day initiative in 2020, to coincide with the opening of the new Pinnacle Center in Horton Place for which attendees included customers, supporters and Bank employees. From this humble beginning, the initiative has grown into a network-wide effort to promote cycling to work and cycling as a way of life, which now attracts and attracts several hundred Bank employees. An increase in participation and interest is now also seen in DFCC Bank branches in the central, northern, eastern and southern regions.
The monthly DFCC Bank Cycle Days are organized by the Bank’s Wellbeing Committee (OMMM) and the Human Resources Department, with the support and participation of senior members of management, including the CEO, Thimal Perera , and many others. To support cycling as a way of life and promote the activity to its residents, the Bank issued branded jerseys and set up financial support programs so that employees could also purchase bicycles.
