Electric Bike Program Returns to Kansas City, Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The weather is expected to warm up in the next few days, and it’s time to start planning some time outdoors.

RideKC said it is helping this process across Wyandotte County through its e-bike program that will return to the county.

The program resumed earlier this week and the bikes are available 24 hours a day.

RideKC has added a new bike center to the new Friendship Inn just south of 43rd Avenue on Rainbow Boulevard in Rosedale. It is one of nine cycling hubs in the region. Runners will also find a station at the Municipal Building in Kansas City, Kansas.

Woodside Racquet Club has also joined the bike share system. A new bike hub will be added outside the main club entrance on 47th Place.

RideKC said it is working on adding a tenth bike center at 36th Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard.

E-bikes are available for rent by the minute and also have unlocking fees, unless you purchase a monthly or annual subscription.

ELECTRIC BIKE PRICE:

  • Walk-in registration: $1.00 to unlock and 15 cents per minute.
  • 24 hour pass: $15, take unlimited rides, each up to 4 hours. Unlock fees are waived. Additional minutes are billed at the same rate as à la carte trips. Expires 24 hours after purchase.
  • 30-day membership: $39. No unlocking fees. Includes 80 minutes of free driving time per day.
  • 90 day membership: $99. No unlocking fees. Includes 80 minutes of free driving time per day.
  • Annual membership: $149. No unlocking fees. Includes 80 minutes of free driving time per day.

E-BIKE INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Use the RideKC Bike app to locate bikes
  2. Scan the barcode on the back of the bike to rent and unlock a bike
  3. The e-bike motor provides extra power every time you pedal
  4. Return the bike to any designated bike share station or other ‘hub’ listed in the app

The Unified Government said the average passenger commute in Kansas City was 21 minutes. On Friday afternoons, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., bicycles were most heavily used in the community, according to the government.
