Hornback, electric bike designed in Hyderabad Revolutionizing the electric vehicle market

By Shyamala Tulasi

Designed by a Hyderabad-based start-up “Kachbo Designs”, led by Nishith Parikh and Rajkumar Kewat, the “Hornback” is revolutionizing the electric vehicle market in the country. The world’s first diamond frame full-size foldable e-bike is setting a new trend in the EV design industry.
It was launched by Telangana IT and Industries Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan on April 10.

“The foldable e-bike takes up less than half the space. It can be easily transported without being lifted. It can easily fit into any public transport, car trunk or elevator,” Parikh said.

The duo felt it was mandatory to have a full-size, foldable diamond-frame e-bike based on the experiences of other riders.

“We noticed that many people were riding bikes with smaller wheels. However, they were not comfortable due to their size. People also had to carry heavy bike racks to load their bikes. Seeing this, we came up with the idea of designing a diamond-framed bicycle that could run on battery power. The duo want to explore the electric vehicle market and started planning the project in 2018 itself.

Parikh said the city is filled with greenery and provides a conducive environment for cyclists. “Better to take the green route. It’s a stone’s throw from the major polluting modes of transport. The bicycle is the champion of a green lifestyle. In addition, it only takes up 10% of the parking space compared to cars. Not only that, but it’s also a good way to stay in shape and fight against rising fuel prices. They’re extremely affordable and cheaper to run,” he said.

The ‘Hornback’ can be easily folded in 15 seconds and locks in its folded or unfolded position, to ensure there is no accidental unlocking.
