Kerala to London by bike: Techie leaves work to paddle 30,000 kilometers for 450 days | Automotive News

Traveling is considered an interesting exercise to take a break from the daily hustle and bustle. We need to understand that traveling is addictive in nature and people often cross borders to provide scenic views for their eyes. Well, a cyclist from Kerala has taken the exercise quite seriously and is now covering around 30,000 kilometers and over 35 countries. It certainly sounds crazy, stupid, and amazing – all at the same time. Named Faiz Ashraf Ali, a travel enthusiast, began his solo cycling expedition from the state capital of Kerala to London on Monday as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the independence of the country vis-à-vis the British. The ride was flagged by Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty.

Organized by the team, Eco Wheelers with the slogan “Heart to Heart”, the trip which is expected to last at least 450 days, is envisaged to spread the message of love and peace among the countries of the world. Ali is expected to travel 30,000 kilometers across 35 countries and reach London in 450 days, organizers said. Pakistan and China do not grant him visas, the cyclist would exclude these countries during his trip.

After reaching Mumbai by bicycle, Ali would board a flight to Oman and from there he would continue his journey and travel through countries like the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Iran and Turkey. He would also cycle through European countries like Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Austria, Italy, Germany and France before reaching London, they added.

The 34-year-old started cycling expeditions years ago after quitting his job at IT major Wipro. His first such solo trip was to Singapore from Kozhikode, his home district, in 2019. A UAE-based travel accessories and luggage company is sponsoring the bike, in which the man travels, during the current trip. Rotary International also supports Ali’s run.
