Launch of Oben Rorr electric bike in India

Bengaluru-based EV startup Oben EV has launched its first electric motorcycle, the Rorr, at Rs 99,999 (ex-Maharashtra showroom including Fame II and state subsidies). Pre-bookings for the electric bike will start online from March 18 at Rs 999.

In terms of design, the Oben Rorr’s production model stays true to what was teased earlier via digital renders, adopting a minimalist neo-retro design, further accentuated by the circular configuration of the LED headlights. On closer inspection, the Oben Rorr is reminiscent of the Honda CB300R, with similar styling.

Electrifying the Oben Rorr is a 4.4kWh battery with an IP67 waterproof rating, paired with a 10kW frame-mounted motor producing 4kW of continuous power and has an IP65 waterproof rating. To give some perspective, Rorr’s direct rival, the Tork Kratos gets a slightly smaller 4kWh battery mated to a 4.5kW axial flux motor. The Rorr is claimed to offer an IDC range of 200 km, as well as a top speed of 100 km/h. Another impressive aspect of this bike is that it can reach 0-40 km/h in just 3 seconds.

The time required to fully charge the batteries of the Rorr is approximately two hours. The company also claims a charging rate of 1km per minute. The Oben Rorr comes with a 15A household plug and portable charger, for charging on the go.

Managing the suspension functions is a telescopic fork up front and a monoshock in the rear. The e-bike has a large paddling capacity of 230mm and a ground clearance of 200mm. Stopping the bike are discs at both ends.

In terms of features, the electric motorcycle comes with an LCD digital dashboard with smartphone connectivity, driver alert system, geo-fencing, geo-fencing, theft protection, riding information and three riding modes – havoc (100 km), city (120 km) and eco (range 150 km).

Additionally, the Bengaluru-based manufacturer offers a three-year/60,000km battery warranty and a three-year motor and controller warranty. With the new manufacturing plant in Bengaluru, the company aims to produce three lakh units per year at maximum capacity.

Along with the launch, Oben EV also revealed that the Rorr will be available for trial from May 2022 with final product deliveries beginning in June 2022.
Oben EV has created an interesting product that is packed with features and comes at a very competitive price. The bike primarily competes with the ex-showroom, subsidy-free Tork Kratos (Rs 1.32 lakh) and the more commuter-focused Revolt RV400 (Rs 1.24 lakh).
