Nearly 500 new electric BIXI bikes added to the fleet this year in Montreal

As the snow (hopefully) begins to melt across Montreal, one thing is becoming more true: BIXI season is fast approaching.

And for riders looking to take that turn electric, the public bike-sharing company has announced that 490 new e-bikes will join this year’s fleet.

In an email shared with Daily Hive, BIXI Montreal indicates that after doubling the size of its service area between 2020 and 2021, the company will continue its massive expansion by adding 31 additional electric charging stations across the island and 765 mooring points.

BIXI Montreal says the company is “working tirelessly” to ensure public bikes can hit the streets before the scheduled April 15 launch date.

“Last season ended on a high note, with record usage figures and the highest number of new customers ever,” said Christian Vermette, CEO of BIXI Montreal. “Spring is fast approaching and we hope, once again, to offer BIXI services to the population as soon as possible.

Vermette says Montreal will become the city with one of the largest e-bike fleets in the world and says ridership has increased 326% in 2020 and 195% in 2021.

In terms of trips, 5.8 million trips were recorded last year in Montreal alone on BIXIs.

BIXISTS looking for a pre-season offer on seasonal subscriptions can consult the BIXI website or mobile application for an offer of $83 (plus taxes) for the entire BIXI season.

Happy BIXing!
