Pile Racing Begins in Manitoba – Harnesslink

The first stakes events of the harness racing season in Manitoba, the first leg of the Golden Boy and Silk Lace for three-year-old Manitoba pacers, took place Saturday (July 23) at the Miami Fair.

Friend Emmett (in irons) maintained his perfect record with a last-to-first win in the Golden Boy Premier Division. He came out of the trailing position in the second quarter for Michel Rey and took cover, stoked three wide corners to head home and got up in the final strides with a time of 2:06, 1. George M (Tyler Grundy) finished second after leading most of the way. Jimmysinthehouse (David Howlett) finished third.

Arthur Rey trains and owns his own winning horse, which is now three for three for life.

Jay Dees Scooter (You should see now) recovered from an early break to win the Second Division for driver Blake Piwniuk. He caught up with the pack and ended second cover on the final corner to score in 2:06.2. Ak Up N Attem (Grundy) braved an early bid to win a place check. Missis Little Bozo (Howlett) finished third.

J. David Mooney of Wawanesa owns the Jay Dees scooter. Travis Ellis trains the colt, triple winner in nine outings for life.

Sassy Libby (Andreoli Hannover) was in the lead throughout the single Silk Lace scorecard, winning in 2:03.4 with Howlett on the bike. Bitsnbites (Kirk Rogers) was the only one around as Skys Little Spunk (Michel Rey) was 20 lengths behind in third.

Marc Fillion trains and co-owns Sassy Libby with Aurel Vodon of Virden and Donald Howlett of Winnipeg. The filly has won three of her 11 career starts.

The race at Miami Fair continues on Saturday, July 30 with a first post at 2 p.m. CDT.
