PremiAir Racing confirms the departure of Pither at the end of the season

PremiAir Racing has confirmed the departure of Chris Pither from its Repco Supercars Championship team at the end of this year.

The Gold Coast side signed the Coca-Cola-backed driver at the start of this season on a one-year contract.

While mid-season rookie James Golding impressed the team during his short tenure, Pither struggled to deliver results.

However, the New Zealander, who sits 22nd in the Drivers’ Championship, has also been unsettled by a number of race engineer changes during the 2022 campaign.

While Golding makes a strong case to be retained for 2023, it is widely reported that Tim Slade will move from the Blanchard Racing team to PremiAir Racing.

In a statement, the Peter Xiberras-owned team confirmed that they will part ways with Pither at the end of the current season.

“PremiAir Racing would like to confirm that Chris Pither will not return as lead driver for the #22 car in 2023. Pither will continue to lead the #22 car for the remainder of the season being Gold Coast and Adelaide and as always, will have the full support of the team,” the statement read.

Golding entered the Townsville team after the ax of Garry Jacobson following the Hidden Valley Raceway event.

In other silly news of the season, Matt Stone Racing has yet to confirm who will fill the vacancy left by BRT-linked Todd Hazelwood for 2023.
