Stockport festival aims to encourage residents to celebrate movement and sport

Celebrate the power of sport at StockSport 2022

Local residents are invited to get active during a new sports festival.

StockSport 2022 will take place in Stockport, Greater Manchester and will host events such as a 5k race, BMX stunt demonstrations and spin lessons.

The festival will take place on Sunday June 26 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

StockSport 2022 is organized by Stockport Council, together with partners such as Trek Wilmslow and Crazy Legs Events.

Councilor Elise Wilson, leader of Stockport Council, said: “This event is about much more than health and fitness.

“It’s about all ages coming together as a community, making friends, laughing, feeling part of a city that shares your ambition to be a world-class place to hang out and relax. have fun.

“So I hope as many people as possible will attend and show what Stockport is really about: its fantastic community.”

The first event of the day will be The Running Festival.

This allows people to choose between a first mile, 5k or 10k run, making it suitable for runners of all skill levels.

The races will start and finish in St Peters Square.

Cycling events will take place throughout the day, with prizes for each race.

For those who want a taste of what it’s like to race, there will be an opportunity to try out the racing circuit.

The top cyclists will then compete on a challenging figure-of-eight circuit through the city center.

There will also be a British Cycling town center criterium race – a first for Greater Manchester in a century.

Ted Gordon, director of Trek Bicycle Store Wilmslow and sponsor of Criterium races, said: “At Trek, our main goal is to get more people riding bikes.

“We are delighted to be part of this fantastic event in Stockport which will grow the cycling community.

“Downtown races are always full of excitement and we look forward to getting involved and helping to create the best possible experience.”

There will be plenty of other free cycling activities available with BMX stunt demonstrations from Fusion Extreme, dedicated circuits for kids and various bikes to try out.

StockSport 2022 will also host an event village, with fitness classes, prizes and a downtown route for children.
