Traveling through crowded spaces requires a quick and nimble ride that’s easy to stow away when not needed. A city bike, or even better a scooter is the best option for an urban lifestyle. If these commuters are very stylish and functional without over-complicating things, that’s icing on the cake.
When it comes to personal commuters, less is more and vice versa too. What if you got the perfect combination of an e-bike and a scooter in one? To me, this sounds like the perfect product for exploring the city or just getting from block to block in no time.
Designate: Ugly Duckling
Having come across countless scooters with impressive design and features, this one is a bar above the rest for its dual purpose and compact design. As I’m a big fan of shape-shifting automotive designs, this one really blew me away beyond comprehension. Called Popup Scooter, the two-wheeled electric bike turns into a chick scooter, and vice versa. This gives the rider (as well as their family and buddies) the flexibility to choose the setup according to particular needs.
The smooth transformation occurs thanks to the hydraulic cylinder, which in normal bikes is used to adjust the ride height. This hydraulic mechanism is capable enough to lift an adult person, so raising and lowering the carousel body should not be a problem at all. At a basic level, the concept isn’t just another blueprint that looks good on paper, but falls flat when it comes to creating the actual prototype or even a production model.
According to the designer, the future will be dominated by one-person mobility, and to meet the demands of sporty driving or a comfortable driving experience, design is going to be a challenge. The Popup Scooter has the potential to satisfy everyone’s needs since it can evolve into a two-wheeler that no one knew existed, but that everyone would want in their garage.
