Three teenagers on bicycles killed in illegal race in Pasir Gudang

PASIR GUDANG: Three teenagers were killed while another was seriously injured during a race on their motorbikes in Jalan Delima, Taman Kota Masai here.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident, involving three motorcycles, happened around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22.

“Initial investigations showed that the incident occurred when the victims, including passengers, were competing with each other.

“The motorcycles rubbed together, causing the accident. Three victims were thrown on the left side of the road and another on the right,” he said in a statement on Saturday April 23.

He said the three victims killed in the incident were between 15 and 16 years old, while the injured victim was 17.

The matter is being investigated under section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“We would like to remind the public, especially parents, to supervise the movements of their minor children and not allow them to ride motorcycles and participate in illegal races,” he said.

In a separate statement, Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi said police arrested two men between the ages of 21 and 22 for their dangerous motorcycle stunts.

“The two local men were arrested on Friday night (April 22) at Jalan Kota Masai here after a viral video of them performing ‘wheelie’ stunts.

“The video was recorded last year and recently went viral on social media,” he said.

He said police had also seized the motorcycles used in the incident and the matter was being investigated under section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
