Jeffrey Katrencik, a native of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, is preparing to tackle nearly 7000 kilometers biking from New York City to Cancún, Mexico to raise awareness of the need for transportation change and to bring attention to the start of the COP16 UN Conference on Climate Change that begins in Cancún on 29 November 2010.

His journey began on 31 July, starting from his current neighborhood of Bushwick in Brooklyn, NY. Over the course of 5 months Jeff plans to stop at points of environmental interest, including mountaintop coal removal sites in Appalachia, a large coal ash spill in Tennessee, and most notably the ongoing oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Jeff will also meet up with other environmental activist groups in the towns he travels through. This is an open ride, so if you or anyone you know would like to accompany Jeff for any portion of his trip, please contact Jeff or Kim, the Ride Planet Earth campaign manager (info on Contact tab).
